Welcome to Glen Ellyn Area Alumnae Chapter
On behalf of the Glen Ellyn Area Alumnae Chapter, I would like to welcome you to our official web site. We are truly excited to be on the world-wide web and proud to say we have embarked on another milestone for our chapter. We have embraced the importance of computer technology and, will use this as a venue for you and others to learn more about our chapter and sisterhood. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. Delta Sigma Theta was incorporated in 1929. We are a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare. The Grand Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has a membership of more than 200,000 predominately African-American college-educated women. Since it's establishment, Delta Sigma Theta in general, and the Glen Ellyn Area Alumnae in specific, has clearly established itself as a public service organization that strives to confront problems of African-Americans and, hence all Americans. A wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and strengthening of the African-American family have emerged and evolved over the years.
In realizing it's mission, Delta Sigma Theta provides an extensive array of public service through its Five-Point Program Thrust: - Economic Development
- Educational Development
- International Awareness and Involvement
- Physical and Mental Health
- Political Awareness and Involvement
We would like for you to take your time as you visit our site and learn more about the Glen Ellyn Area Alumnae Chapter. Please spread the word of our existence and come back to check for regular updates regarding events, programs and announcements. Sincerely, Soror Debbie Brooks, President |
